As an Insured Motorist you need to know the values that go along with having your insurance carrier being a Shop of Choice Company.
You always want to be the customer whenever you have to take your automobile into any shop for repairs, however, DRP or Direct Repair Program shops, those that have joined with insurance companies and adhere to their policies on pricing, parts and labor, place you in the posiition of being in limbo. In reality the true customer of the body shop in this case is not you the insured motorist, but the body shop. Why, because DRP shops survive off of the referrals they get from the insurance carriers they sign on with, where does this leave you, at both their mercies, not a ideal place to be, especially since you are the one paying the premiums.
Shop of Choice however, adds an interesting twist to this practice. Recently more insurance companies are referring their customers to body shops that are not on their DRP program, but have exhibited high quality repairs at reasonable rates. So in order to expidite matters all around some insurance companies may refer you to a non-DRP shop. All you have to do is before you go there, just call the shop and ask them if they are a DRP shop of your insurance carrier or ask your carrier yourself.
